Colorado on My Mind
Show Opening First Friday
Abby Jensen and Maggie Smith bring images of Colorado to the forefront in their upcoming exhibit at Circle Seven Fine Art. Meander through the landscapes, flora, and fauna of Colorado at the opening reception on Dec 6, 2013 (First Friday Artwalk).
Maggie Smith is inspired by natural landscapes. Working from memory and photos, she creates images that highlight specific aspects of the flora, fauna, and landscape around us that evoke memories of places and times, often combining aspects from two or more realities.
She enjoys putting real or imagined objects from nature onto paper using the printmaking process; layering of inks, color and shape combinations, and etching. The printmaking process is logistically and spatially challenging, and yet very creative. After each pass of the printing plate and paper through the press there is a moment of anticipation as you wait to see how the additional colors, shapes or etching have enhanced the work in progress.
Abby Jensen is a lover of wildlife & the outdoors, she only
photographs animals in the wild. Abby often spends hours, and sometimes days, tracking animals in their natural habitat, waiting for the perfect moment. "I am always conscience of the fact that I am in their world and I am very respectful of being in it with them." Her landscapes happen when something about the beauty of the area makes her stop. Abby's photographic focus is on wildlife but there are occasions when the world around her makes her take a deep breath, that’s when she gets the shot.
