...ring Jim’s orthopedic residency in the '70s. Dr. Okagaki befriended Jim and treated him as if he were his own son. He helped Jim setup a primitive darkroom, taught him how to develop film, appreciate lighting and exposure and not to get discouraged when Henry would say, “That print looks kind of muddy Jim. Here is what I would do.”
Jim’s interest in basic science and anatomy has carried over to his passion for photography. During his orthopedic residency he was frequently in the anatomy lab photographing anatomical dissections so that they could be carefully studied for detail. That same interest is seen in his photography, where he has the ability to capture images for their detail and then if desired, transform them in to fine art renditions.
Jim has an appreciation for all there is to see, oftentimes not any farther than the front door, deck or window of his home in Steamboat Springs, CO. He is appreciative of God and the gifts given to us for our enjoyment. Jim understands that one image capture only leads to a desire to capture and render more. Jim hopes his imagery inspires all to look beyond their front door.
The Web is a means of viewing a small range of Jim Gmeiner’s Fine Art Photography, but the archival prints truly reveal the detail and artistic expressions he is capable of presenting. Jim is fastidious about his editing and printing. He prints using an HP Z3200 Designjet printer and Vivera HP inks. Printing is on photographic and fine art paper and canvas.
